So I can’t believe I am just now posting this sweet couple’s surprise engagement session. Tyler and Melissa were married just over a week ago here in Nashville and soon I will be posting some lovely sneak peeks from their autumn nuptials. Before I share those, I want to share the story of how they became engaged. Tyler had been planning this proposal for weeks. He knew it was one of Melissa’s dreams to go on a hot air balloon ride and under the guise of her birthday gift she wouldn’t suspect a thing as far as engagement rings were concerned. Unfortunately this past Spring we had some pretty crazy weather here in Tennessee and it seemed timing just wasn’t quite right for her birthday surprise. Their balloon trip kept getting pushed back and the ring in Tyler’s possession was driving him crazy. One day he got a call from the balloon operators saying they were a go. He called me on a whim and asked if I would be available to help him surprise his girlfriend. So he concocted a plan that I needed models for a shoot I was doing and they had to do it the very next day. We met up at Arrington Vineyard where the balloon was waiting and we convinced Melissa that we would just be shooting around there for this “balloon inspired” session. We shot a few “engagement” style images and then Tyler revealed the balloon ride was actually for her as a surprise, yet slightly belated, birthday gift. She was so excited and happy that the two of them would be taking off on one of these air ships in a matter of minutes that she was absolutely glowing. I asked if they would mind shooting some images around the balloon as it filled up (all part of Tyler’s master plan) and just when the balloon was nearly filled Tyler dropped to his knee and asked her to be his wife. You could see just how truly surprised Melissa was. I was so happy to be part of everything and help Tyler ask the girl of his dreams to be his bride. I stayed on the ground as I watched these two take off into the Spring sky for an evening ride above Franklin. It was such a moving experience to be there the day Melissa said yes and even more special to have been present to document their vows a few short days ago. These two are truly two halves of one soul and are the perfect definition of what partnership looks like. I can’t wait to share the sneak peek of their wedding photos later this week, but for now, enjoy this little visual story of the day they became engaged.
Tyler & Melissa thank you for allowing me to tell your love story. It has been a true pleasure.
